Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease or line a 9x9-inch baking pan with parchment paper.
In a medium bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, baking powder, baking soda, ground cinnamon, ground nutmeg, and salt. Set aside.
In a large mixing bowl, use an electric hand mixer to cream together the softened butter, brown sugar, and granulated sugar until light and fluffy (about 2 minutes).
Add the egg and vanilla extract to the butter mixture and beat until well combined.
Mix in the applesauce until fully incorporated.
Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing just until combined. Do not overmix.
Pour the batter into the prepared pan and spread it evenly.
Bake in the preheated oven for 22-25 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
Remove from the oven and allow the bars to cool completely in the pan on a wire rack.
While the bars are cooling, make the glaze by whisking together the powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla extract in a small bowl until smooth.
Once the bars are cooled, drizzle the glaze evenly over the top.
Cut into 12 squares or bars and serve. Enjoy!
