Indulge guilt-free with this Low Fat Traditional Besan Laddoo, a lighter twist on the classic Indian sweet. Crafted with roasted gram flour, a touch of ghee, and sweetened with powdered jaggery or sugar, this recipe retains all the flavor of the beloved laddoo while reducing fat content. The addition of chopped almonds and cashews adds a delightful crunch, while cardamom powder enhances the aroma with its warm, spiced notes. This streamlined version uses milk to bind the mixture instead of excessive ghee, making it perfect for health-conscious dessert lovers. Ready in just 35 minutes, these laddoos are ideal for festive celebrations or as an everyday treat. Store them in an airtight container for a wholesome snack on the go!
Heat a non-stick pan on low-medium heat and add the ghee.
Once the ghee melts, add the besan (gram flour) to the pan. Stir continuously to ensure the besan is evenly coated with ghee.
Roast the besan on low heat for about 12-15 minutes until it turns golden brown and emits a nutty aroma. Be careful not to let it burn by stirring consistently.
Add the finely chopped almonds and cashews to the pan and roast them for 1-2 minutes with the besan.
Turn off the heat and allow the roasted besan mixture to cool slightlyβjust warm enough to handle but not hot.
Mix the powdered jaggery (or powdered sugar) and cardamom powder into the warm besan mixture. Ensure the jaggery/sugar blends evenly.
Add milk, one tablespoon at a time, to bring the mixture together. Stir thoroughly after each addition to distribute the moisture evenly.
When the mixture is pliable and holds shape, divide it into 8 equal portions.
Grease your palms lightly with ghee (optional for easier rolling) and shape each portion into a round laddoo.
Let the laddoos cool completely before storing them in an airtight container.
