Topped with crunchy pistachios for an elegant finish, this dessert is an ideal guilt-free indulgence for festive occasions or weekend treats. Ready in under an hour, these heart-smart badushas prove that you can enjoy classic flavors while staying mindful of your well-being.
In a mixing bowl, add whole wheat flour and baking powder. Mix well to combine the dry ingredients.
Add low-fat yogurt and olive oil to the flour mixture. Mix thoroughly until it forms a soft, non-sticky dough. Use a little water if necessary to achieve the desired consistency.
Cover the dough with a damp cloth and let it rest for 15 minutes.
Meanwhile, prepare the sugar syrup. In a small pan, add raw cane sugar and water. Heat on medium flame until the sugar dissolves completely.
Add cardamom powder and lemon juice to the sugar syrup. Boil for 2-3 minutes until it thickens slightly. Remove from heat.
After the dough has rested, divide it into 10 equal portions. Shape each portion into a smooth ball and flatten it slightly, pressing your thumb slightly in the center.
Preheat an air fryer to 180°C (350°F). Place the flattened dough balls in the air fryer basket, leaving a little space in between.
Air fry the badushas at 180°C for 10-12 minutes or until they are lightly golden brown and cooked well.
Remove the badushas from the air fryer and immediately immerse them in the warm sugar syrup. Allow them to soak for 2 minutes on each side.
Garnish the badushas with chopped pistachios on top before serving.
Enjoy your heart-healthy badusha warm or at room temperature as a delightful treat.
