Breakfast just got a charming upgrade with this classic and easy-to-make "Egg in the Nest" recipe! Perfect for a quick, hearty start to the day, this dish features a slice of toasted bread with a golden yolk nestled right in the center. Ready in just 10 minutes, itβs buttery and crisp on the outside while the egg is perfectly cooked to your preference. Seasoned simply with a pinch of salt and black pepper, this versatile recipe can be customized with optional toppings like grated cheese, fresh parsley, or a drizzle of hot sauce. Whether you call it egg in a basket, toad in the hole, or eggs in toast, this breakfast favorite is a delightful combination of fun and flavor that will start your morning on a delicious note.
Use a round cookie cutter or the rim of a glass to cut a circular hole in the center of the slice of bread. Set the bread and the cut-out circle aside.
Heat a non-stick skillet over medium heat and add the butter. Allow the butter to melt and coat the skillet evenly.
Place the slice of bread and the cut-out circle onto the skillet. Let the bread toast lightly for about 1 minute.
Crack the egg into the circular hole in the slice of bread. Try to keep the yolk intact while allowing the egg white to fill the rest of the hole.
Sprinkle the egg with a pinch of salt and black pepper for seasoning.
Cook for about 2-3 minutes, or until the egg white starts to set and the underside of the bread turns golden brown.
Carefully flip the slice of bread with the egg using a spatula. Flip the cut-out circle, too. Cook for an additional 1-2 minutes until the egg reaches your desired doneness (longer for a fully set yolk).
Transfer the egg in the nest and the toasted circle to a plate. Add optional toppings like chopped parsley, grated cheese, or hot sauce, if desired.
Serve warm and enjoy your Egg in the Nest!
