Pour 2 cups of water into a microwave-safe bowl.
Add 1/2 cup of white vinegar to the water.
If using lemon, cut it in half, squeeze the juice into the mixture, and place the squeezed halves into the bowl.
Place the bowl in the microwave.
Heat the mixture on high power for 5 minutes. The steam from the mixture will loosen food splatters and stains.
After the timer goes off, leave the microwave door closed for an additional 2-3 minutes to allow the steam to work its magic.
Carefully remove the bowl from the microwave using oven mitts, as it will be very hot.
Wipe down the inside of the microwave with a damp sponge or cloth. Any stuck-on residue should come off easily.
Dry the interior with a clean towel and enjoy your sparkling microwave!
