Featuring firm tofu coated in a perfectly seasoned cornstarch mixture with hints of garlic, paprika, and black pepper, this recipe creates a crunchy texture that’s a true crowd-pleaser. Quick to prepare in just 25 minutes, these tofu cubes are deep-fried to perfection, making them an ideal vegan-friendly option for dipping into soy sauce, chili sauce, or sweet chili sauce. Perfect as a savory side dish or a protein-packed snack, this recipe is your go-to for turning simple ingredients into a crispy, golden delight.
Press the firm tofu to remove excess moisture. Wrap the tofu in a clean kitchen towel and place a heavy object on top. Let it sit for 10-15 minutes.
Cut the pressed tofu into bite-sized cubes, approximately 1.5 cm on each side.
In a medium bowl, combine cornstarch, salt, garlic powder, ground black pepper, and paprika.
Lightly toss the tofu cubes in the cornstarch mixture, making sure each piece is evenly coated. Shake off any excess cornstarch.
Heat the vegetable oil in a deep skillet or wok over medium-high heat until it reaches 180°C (350°F). Test the oil by dropping a small piece of tofu into it; if it sizzles immediately, the oil is ready.
Carefully add the tofu cubes to the hot oil in small batches to avoid overcrowding. Fry for 2-3 minutes on each side, or until the tofu turns golden brown and crispy.
Use a slotted spoon to remove the fried tofu from the oil and transfer it to a plate lined with paper towels to drain excess oil.
Repeat with the remaining tofu cubes.
Serve hot as is or with a dipping sauce of your choice, such as soy sauce, chili sauce, or sweet chili sauce. Enjoy!
