In a clean 1-quart mason jar, layer the dry ingredients in the following order: all-purpose flour, granulated sugar, baking powder, salt, dried cherries, and chopped walnuts. Press each layer down with a spoon or tamper to make it compact and even.
Seal the jar tightly with a lid and decorate with a ribbon or tag. Be sure to include the baking instructions on the tag.
To prepare muffins: Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C). Line a 12-cup muffin tin with paper liners or lightly grease the cups.
Pour the contents of the jar into a large mixing bowl. In another bowl, whisk together 0.33 cup vegetable oil, 0.75 cup milk, and 1 large egg until combined.
Add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients and mix until just combined. Do not overmix; some lumps are fine.
Divide the batter evenly among the prepared muffin cups, filling each about 2/3 full.
Bake in the preheated oven for 18–20 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center of a muffin comes out clean.
Allow the muffins to cool in the tin for 5 minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely.
Serve warm or at room temperature and enjoy your homemade Cherry Nut Muffins!
